A visit to the Post office

last week I left work early, feeling down in the dumps. I thought i had a meeting, but checked my diary in the parking lot at Woolies and saw i had the day wrong. So, i decided, ill get lunch and go home and work. It was 3pm and I hadn’t had lunch, so i was hungry.

I stopped in at Woolies, and since i was hungry, fulled my trolley, and managed to get the last cheese and spinach pie (YUM!). Got everything scanned and loaded into bags, and looked for my card. Nothing. Remembered that I had given it to Robert to get groceries the other day. And my credit cards had been removed for their own safety.

Ugh…. so i had to leave everything there, including my pie. My stomach was growling.

I decided to go fetch a package I got a notice for. Apparently it was too big to fit in my mail box. I had no idea what it was, but i love getting packages.

Lord, i stood in the post office queue for 30 minutes, glaring at the post office people and tapping my fingers on the counter (“DO NOT LEAN”). The whole time, there were two people being helped with a box full of envelopes – they were buying stamps (which seems to be very time consuming, because you have to buy twelve different stamps to post one letter).

I was so mad (and my stomach thought it was getting a pie, so I was getting hunger madness) I finally got to the front of the queue, sighed loudly, handed my slip in, and received a little envelop I was pretty sure would fit into my post box. DISAPPOINTED! I gave the man behind the counter a few tips on managing the queue (im an expert of course). He took them under advisement.

I started opening the envelop on the way out – hoping it contained the R10.50 necessary to buy a pie. No.

the envelope contained:

a pair of dirty toe socks

I stood in a queue, starving to death

for dirty toe socks that i left in durban 2 weeks ago

the guest house kindly put three stamps on a padded little envelope and enclosed, for my attention, my toe socks.

Sundays, and madonna

Robert has gotten the latest madonna, and has been playing it all day, while he tries to remove the arm hairs from the woman he took photographs of a couple of weeks ago (with photoshop). He says he is going to play it ‘vrot’. Im certainly vrot of it. The last time he was doing an exhibition i was subjected to madonna 24 hours a day, if he does that again I might have to break his cd.

I spent the day shopping for slippers (R39.99 from Pep) and mosiac supplies. I made a mirror heart for Women’sNet to ward off evil – a feng shui thing that Tansy recommended. Tansy is off back to Canada today. We have bags of old shoes “for the poor” to remember her by.

Sundays are short.
